New York, N.Y. It's important to restore any water that is lost from your body through sweating, diarrhea, or urination. When you lose moisture or water from your body you are experiencing Dehydration. When you’re dehydrated you may find yourself with sugar cravings, bad breath, dried out skin, muscle cramping, headaches and even constipation. If you find yourself with any of these symptoms Here’s why you should be drinking more water!
1.Weight Loss
When you start to drink more water you start to feel fuller after a meal and you might find that your appetite has changed. Many people get signals from their body that are similar to hunger pans and they opt for a snack instead of drinking water. These “hunger” signals are in fact signs of your body needing more water. When you drink water only when you’re thirsty you’ve already reached mild dehydration.
Drink water 30 minutes before a meal. This will cause a sense of fullness, instead of consuming a plate with huge portions you will find yourself eating less.
2. Clear & Glowing Skin
Due to dehydration when you don’t drink enough water your skin becomes rough, dry and in some cases puffy especially around the winter It’s common for people to drink less water through the cold Winter months than in hot summer months but it’s still important to maintain hydration. Think of your skin as a dried up sponge when it’s not given the H20 treatment.
Instead of going out to buy an empty caloric sugary drink that can cause your skin to breakout, keep a water bottle with you throughout the day.
3. Normal Bowel Movement
When you start your day off by drinking 16 oz of water as soon as you wake up, you’ll start to notice a kick in your metabolism and digestion. Water can help cure stomach acid and when combined with fiber dense foods it can cure constipation.
Before you go to bed at night set yourself up for success the next morning by leaving a full bottle of water by your bedside so you can drink it as soon as you wake. Add some Lemon or Lime slice to make your water alkaline. Diseases can’t survive in an alkaline rich environment, so your gut will benefit highly from this small add on too!
4. Detoxifies your Kidneys
Have you ever noticed when you drink a lot of water your urine start to become much clearer and doesn’t have an odor? Thats because when you drink enough water your kidneys are able to get rid of a toxin in your body called Blood Urea Nitrogen. When you’re not drinking a lot of water your urine has an odor and color change.
When you use the restroom check the color of your urine to indicate wether you are drinking enough water. If it has an odor and a yellow shade drink more water.
5.Increased Energy
When you’re dehydrated you get drained of energy and it can lead to feeling fatigued, getting headaches, having muscle weakness and other side effects. When you start increasing your water consumption you have more energy for hard workouts and your cells maintain their balance of electrolytes.
Your body is 75% water. We can go about a month with out food but can live only 2-3 days without water. You might be wondering how much should you drink. Some experts say drink half your body weight in oz, some say eight cups of water a day. It really all depends on your size, physical activity, and the climate you live in. Experiment and find what works best for your body.
