In Miami: Asymmetrik Gallery Presents Ran Ortner Solo Exhibition

Miami, FL. ASYMMETRIK Gallery  will present "Element", a solo exhibition of works by Ran Ortner at Art Miami CONTEXT 2013 . The site will be designed to create an immersive experience-allegorically and architecturally renegotiating the idea of the "air fair booth." Visitors will experience the paintings in an installation environment.

The featured three pieces that will be exhibited this time are the final works in the ‘Element’ series. The two verticals (Element No. 9 & 10) are premiering at the show, Element No. 5 is having its premier showing in the US, first shown as the visual centerpiece for the United Nations, World Water Day in The Netherlands.

Back to  2009, his Open Water No. 24 won First Place in the inaugural, ArtPrize competition in Grand Rapids, MI.  Ran Ortner’s work has appeared in solo and group exhibits in London (UK), Antwerp (Belgium), Cologne and Frankfurt (Germany), Singapore, Moscow (Russia), and across the United States, including, New York, Miami and Los Angeles.

“Life insisting on itself, while living on the edge of time” is perhaps one of the most descriptive sentences Ran Ortner uses to articulate his ethos. Previously in life, he was a professional mo- torcycle racer, he is also a surfer. His personal proximity with mortality and the sublime has led Ortner to create visceral canvases – the ocean is his muse. The scale of the paintings resonate with the sublimation one experiences when encountering towering architecture. The vacillating ocean in his paintings is akin to a pendulum that is endless, there is no present, no future, nor past, only experience.

Innovation comes from understanding the past, and having a sensibility to feel the now. The emo- tional complexity of the old masters and their technique juxtaposed with the raw emotional lens of the digital age creates a visceral aesthetic that transcends styles and temporalities. The large scale of the works arrest not only our gaze, but our physicality.
