In Hell's Kitchen, Tang-Wei Hsu: Nature’s Wonderland

New York, N.Y. Asymmetrik Gallery is pleased to present Nature’s Wonderland , a solo exhibition of works by Tang-Wei Hsu. For this exhibition, the artist intends to show us a world of his self-imagination, which is pieced together with real surroundings and fancied stories.
In Hsu's creation, some are characterized by an unknown biological system, appearing to delineate the fantasy of civilization as well as to record the course of speciation; meanwhile, it can be seen as a new ecotype that propagates after time and space have been compressed. The exhibition, starting from such an illusory story, invites us to re-think and re-explore the whole environment of reality, the world we live.
Jeremy Hu, Director/Curator of Asymmetrik Gallery, told us:
In the site, Hsu creates an ecological phenomenon. By means of biological messages looming out of the scenes, associations incited by grotesque movements among the insects, as well as physical variations of the creatures, the artist encourages us to connect up these pictorial images and allows our imaginations full play in thinking.
At the same time, Hsu also has his late sculptures displayed in the exhibition. Through three-dimensional images, Hsu attempts to build a stereoscopic association to the surroundings, or a perspective observation on another form of natural evolution.
The New York City Department of Transportation's (DOT) Urban Art Program and The International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) also revealed Tang-Wei Hsu's "Monkey Magic" in August 2013, a outdoor sculpture piece at pedestrian safety island at 9th Avenue and 36th Street, NYC.
Apart from a solo exhibition, Hsu will also participate in the DUMBO Arts Festival and the 4heads : 2013 Governors Island Art Fair. For both group exhibitions, Hsu has prepared site-specific installations and a new series of paintings. “Rainbow Pixies", new species of animals with mutation in gene will be installed, responding to and interacting with the surroundings. In addition, a series of new works involving 'natural phenomenon' will be on show in the historical building of Governors Island, along with the color-changing insect installation scattered over the floor. All these exhibitions feature the artist's recent creations, with a significant concern: environment.
