The Top Seven Benefits of the Landmark Forum are said to be courage, self confidence, freedom from resentment and regret, piece of mind, the ability to fully express your love, the ability to make decisions without doubting yourself, and happiness. The event is free of charge.

We caught up with Jim after last week's gala to ask him about his experiences with Landmark in the last year:

I took the Landmark Forum one year ago and it profoundly transformed my life and continues to transform my life though my family and our foundation… I have a stronger sense of self now, don't let little things bother me as much, and am more powerful in my relationships with others. In the words of one of my favorite leaders there, I am becoming 'unmessable.' (he chuckles)

At the gala, Jim shared with the large dinner audience:

Seventeen years ago, shortly after the adoption of my son and with support of my child psychologist mother, we began Orphans International ( oiww.org ). Ten years later , inspired by my college professor father, we began our foundation to support young global leadership ( lucefoundation.org ).

My experience in the last year through my Landmark training has left me, as they say,  'moved, touched, and inspired.' My goal was to become 'fully self-expressed and allowing me to leave others empowered, enabled, and present to their own greatness' - and I really think I got that. Many of you tonight have told me you see that.

Landmark is grounded in a model of transformative learning - a way of learning that gives you an awareness of the basic structures in which they know, think, and act. From this awareness comes a fundamental shift that leaves one more fully in accord with their own possibilities and those of others.  See:  http://www.landmarkworldwide.com/the-landmark-forum

Jim will host two  Landmark home introductions on Roosevelt Island that are open to the public with a reservation.

In these intros, as well as in his party, he will share overcoming sexual abuse from his brother as a child, becoming closer with another sibling as an adult, living powerfully with HIV, and dealing with the tragic death of his mother that was less than accidental. Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. Our 1.4 million members perform valuable service in 210 countries and geographic areas around the globe. Lions are friends, family and neighbors who share a core belief: community is what we make it.  Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion.

The  New York Global Leaders Lions Club  has 33 members and meets weekly on Roosevelt Island, joining over 5,000 Lions members in New York City. Jim Luce serves as its founding president. See Jim's reflective piece in The Daily Kos,  Lions, Rotary, Kiwanis: Are American Service Clubs Too Old To Matter?

The J. Luce Foundation began its  Toastmasters International Chapter  to impart public speaking and leadership skills with our interns and other young global leaders, using The Toastmasters Communications Basic Manual as a starting point. Jim was president of the Roosevelt Island Toastmasters for several years and was commended ( story ).

The Roosevelt Island Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual event, MC'd for the last several years by Jim Luce - in full kimono. Jim, who studied in Tokyo, has deep roots in the local community that labors to pull this grand event together years after year, under the leadership of Lynn Shinozaki and Lydia Tang among many others  (See HuffPo:  Roosevelt Island Prepares for Annual Cherry Blossom Festival ).
